Fentanyl is no joke. It’s everywhere and in all kinds of drugs today. Just two milligrams of fentanyl (equal to a few grains of salt) is enough to kill you. If you and/or a friend use drugs, follow a few simple steps to help prevent overdose or worse.

DON’T GO SOLO

If you use, do it with a friend you trust. If that’s not possible, at least have someone check on you or call you soon.

CARRY NARCAN®

Narcan can literally save lives. If you use with a friend, be sure one of you is carrying narcan.

TEST IT FIRST

Fentanyl test strips are available at your local health department. Use on any drug beforehand to see if it contains fentanyl.

TAKE IT SLOW

Start using any drug in small amounts and see how you’re feeling before continuing.

KNOW RESCUE BREATHING

If someone has overdosed, knowing how to provide rescue breathing can buy valuable time until help arrives.

HELP WITHOUT FEAR

Maryland’s Good Samaritan Law protects people assisting in an emergency overdose situation from arrest and prosecution—so don’t hesitate to help someone in need.
